Why Will Today’s Language Be Inadequate in a Technocratic World?

“We seldom realise, for example, that our most private thoughts and emotions are not actually our own. For we think in terms of languages and images which we did not invent, but which were given to us by our society.” Alan Watts _____________________________________ by Michael Corthell Why then is today's language inadequate in a future technocratic society? First, we must make a distinction between conversational (or emotional language) and technical language. Conversational Speak: Conversational language is sometimes referred to as “everyday language,” “natural language,” or “social communication.” It includes informal language that students might use with peers or adults while playing, shopping, and completing household tasks. MORE Technical Speak: Technical language refers to written or oral communication that has specialized content. ... The differences between technical and everyday language center on the use of jargon and assumptions about the audience. However, there are so

Forget About the Fear of Death

by Michael Corthell I've saved the 'best' for last, in this series on phobias and how to overcome them. How to conquer the fear of death or Thanatophobia. The fear of death can suck the life right out of you. The American Psychological Association says that officially there are 100 phobias, but there are actually more than 500 of them in existence them according to medical literature. Thanatophobia, the fear of kicking the bucket(rightly fear of the dying process) is one of them.  ''The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.'' —Mark Twain The fear of death is one of the major fears we all have. It can be so intense, that in many cases it becomes debilitating — it ruins the person's ability to enjoy life. It is the second greatest fear just behind poverty. It is my contention is that the two fears are basically one and the same because in our minds we equate lack of money with de

Animal Enslavement, Use and Abuse: Man Receives Heart from Genetically Altered Pig

Xenotransplantation is any procedure that involves the transplantation, implantation or infusion into a human recipient of either (a) live cells, tissues, or organs from a nonhuman animal source, or (b) human body fluids, cells, tissues, or organs that have had ex vivo contact with live nonhuman animal cells, tissues or organs. The development of xenotransplantation is, in part, driven by the fact that the demand for human organs for clinical transplantation far exceeds the supply. _______________ ''...Oz never did give nothing to the Tin Man That he didn't, didn't already have And cause never was the reason for the evening Or the tropic of Sir Galahad...'' —  America According to CNN a 57-year-old Maryland man is doing well three days after receiving a genetically modified pig heart in a first-of-its-kind transplant surgery, University of Maryland Medicine said in a news release Monday. Simplicity: Why Should I Go Minimal and Downsize?

''Living with less stuff is not about suffering more, but instead, it's a way to discover what is most important. Sometimes, the only way to determine what is really important in your life is to get rid of everything that isn’t.'' Michael Corthell _______________ MINIMALISM: LIVING WELL AND DOING MORE WITH LESS Paring it down. Finding out that you really don't need all this 'stuff'. But, being a minimalist doesn't mean that you are poor or have to live poorly. It is  not  a life of poverty. As you can see below, minimalism is not a new idea. One of America's founding fathers and prolific over-achievers was spot on... '' There are two ways to increase your wealth. Increase your means or decrease your wants. The best is to do both at the same time.''   ―Benjamin Franklin

How to Have a Good Day

The Law of Divine Oneness and Who was Jesus Christ?

Jesus, came into his physical body with the awareness that he was a subset of God or God incarnate. He of course understood The Law of Divine Oneness ( plus all Universal Laws ) and called himself the Son of God.  He taught, '' I can assure you that whoever believes in me(what I teach) will do the same things I have done. And they will do even greater things than I have done because I am going to the Father.   And if you ask for anything in my name, I will do it for you. Then the Father’s glory will be shown through the Son.   If you ask me for anything in my name, I will do it... All who love me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them. My Father and I will come to them and live with them. '' He also said,  “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” He points to the disciples and says, “Here are my mother and my brothers.  For whoever does the will of my father in heaven is my brother and sister  and mother.”   Finally,  God, the Source, or the One is made

Are All People All One?

We and all things are indeed all one — in substance and in spirit. Humanity at large does not understand this yet and that is the cause of nearly all the suffering in our world today.

NOW is the Time

Time is a concept of the human mind, that can exist only within the mind. Outside of our minds and its multiplicity of concepts and theories, there is only the ever-present, continuous, and uninterrupted present. Spirit of Black and White

''When we photograph in color, we receive the full spectrum of light, and that's a 'true' picture of what is. But when we photograph people or any object in black and white, we reveal the spirit of was is and thereby expose mood.''  - Michael Corthell

The Symbolism and Psychology of Colors

A dispersive prism is used to break up light into its constituent spectral  colors  (the colors of the  rainbow ). by Michael Corthell The symbolic meaning of a color can vary depending on the society, the culture, and the historical time period. Each color has many properties, but the symbolic meanings are fairly straightforward. Knowing color symbolism is helpful in understanding human behavior. Color, as a symbol, is a form of non-verbal communication, and expression. Color influences human perception in ways that are not always obvious. The sense of taste for example. Colors can also be helpful for their placebo-like effects. For example, red and orange capsules are generally used to package stimulants . Color can indeed influence peoples' perceptions, but they are not even across the board. It is very important to remember that the effect of color symbolism can vary depending on gender, age, and culture. For example, a majority of men reported that red colore

ALIENS R US

''We reside in an average solar system, in an average galaxy containing BILLIONS of suns, in a Universe that contains BILLIONS of galaxies, and to say that our world must be the only world among TRILLIONS with intelligent life on it is, well, insane.''  Michael Corthell

Let There Be Light and Life

''Creation starts at the simplest level. Stars are made of the simplest stuff: hydrogen atoms. Under gravitational pressure, they fuse to become helium atoms, the next simplest form of matter. That is when the 'magic' begins: E= MC2: there is light, the energy of creation. After that, the star spins, and planets are formed. Creation . This process has been repeated trillions of times in the Universe with the ultimate result being the creation of Life.''  - Michael Corthell

Resource-Based Economy: Just by Design

Money is only important in a society when certain resources for survival must be rationed and the people accept money as an exchange medium for the scarce resources. Money is a social convention, an agreement if you will. It is neither a natural resource nor does it represent one. It is not necessary for survival unless we have been conditioned to accept it as such.... When futurists refer to ‘resource-based economics’ today, in a post-industrial context, they’re usually talking about systems where global resources are managed rather like municipal utilities, and as a result currencies become redundant. No one ‘owns’ water. Communities create facilities for its collection and distribution as a public utility. Imagine that all resources and many commodities were treated this same way and you have part of the picture of what a resource-based economy means. Such systems are anticipated to evolve from global digital networked market systems that become ‘commoditized’ by the trends in decen

What Should We Value Most?

A Resource - Based Economy is a system in which all goods and services are available without the use of money, credits, barter or any other system of debt or servitude. All resources become the common heritage of all of the inhabitants, not just a select few. (Allocating resources as a utility, without money)

Global Unity | What is The Venus Project and a Resource Based Economy?

Resourcesim is the belief or ideology that all of the Earth's resources are the common inheritance of all the world's people and should be shared equally for the benefit of all the Earth's inhabitants. ____________________________  I personally, along with my organization The Vegan Projet stands behind and fully endorses  The Venus Project  and the  Resource Based Economy   a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization that is working on designing, testing, and implementing a new socio-economic system called a Global Resource Based Economy . --  Michael Corthell   Accepting that humanity's problems are global in nature, Resource Based Economy concept is a bold proposal that seeks to provide a higher quality of life for all, through the intelligent management of Earth's resources.  What is required is the redesign of our culture to operate within the carrying capacity of the Earth’s resources and in accordance with the wellbeing of people and protection of the environment. Cosmic Soup

by Michael Corthell A few years ago when I was single, it was my habit of just opening a can of Progresso soup for supper. I did this far too often out of laziness. But on this night it kinda sorta paid off because it gave me some cosmic insight. A night or two before I had watched a documentary on the Universe . Much of the film had to do with the sheer scale of it and all the different galaxies and structures within those galaxies - black holes, nebula star incubators, and such.  In the time after and before I was preparing my soup supper, I was thinking a lot about what I had learned in watching the documentary. My first question was; '' Is the Universe one thing ?'' And the second one, ''Do the laws of physics and chemistry apply uniformly, everywhere in the Universe?'' And lastly, ''Are there life-forms spread uniformly throughout the Universe?''   So, I'm stirring my soup. The burner's on low so as not to burn the feast. I

Good Goals: Dreams with Deadlines

If you want to be happy, and fulfilled, choose goals that command your thoughts, liberate your energy and inspires your hope! by Michael Corthell Do you like setting goals? Many people set a goals for themselves and rarely achieve them because the goals are either too unrealistic or the time-line for reaching them is too short or there are too many goals in play at one time. Top-level athletes, successful business-people and achievers in all fields all set goals . Setting goals gives you long-term vision and short-term motivation. It focuses your acquisition of knowledge, and helps you to organize your time and your resources so that you can make the very most of your life. ''A Goal is a dream with a deadline.'' —Napoleon Hill Trying to ignore needed goals and objectives is like ignoring a hungry cat or crying baby. It just shouldn't be done. They both have to be fed and nurtured. There is a 'smart' way to go about it. Specific, M
