Want to be Happy? Be Grateful!

by Michael Corthell Three questions: 1. Are there any good and positive things in your life right now? 2. What are they? 3. And do you always seek good, positive things in your life every day? If you're not sure about the second question, I understand that, and I just want to remind you that you're not alone. All of us get trapped in our daily lives and sometimes forget to see all the good that is around us. It can all boil down to perspective. ''The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore when your eye is good, your whole body also is full of light. But when your eye is bad your whole body is full of darkness.''   —Luke 11:34 How? That is the question. The answer is by being a positive thinker—having a positive mindset so that you can rise above discouragement. I want to remind you how critical it is to count your blessings, to be full of thanksgiving to God for every good thing in your life. When you acknowledge the goodness

Oneness is The Foundation of Equality: The Spirit is Neither Male nor Female

by Michael Corthell Studies have  shown  there is much less of a difference in male/female behavior than you might think. A comparison of several of these studies has also shown, that none of these gender stereotypes we experience has any basis in fact. Also, other research  in neuroscience illustrates that there is no difference between the female brain and the male brain at birth . It can therefore be rightly assumed that the family dynamic, plus societal influences, mold gender behaviors. When we think of ourselves strictly in human, gender-based terms, we are not really seeing the true nature of ourselves. ''I am not an angel," I asserted; "and I will not be one till I die: I will be myself.'' ― Charlotte Bronte, Jane Eyre The human soul is created by God and is eternal from it's creation, and is in the image of God. When Jesus (God incarnate) was speaking about the subject of marriage in Heaven, He made it very clear

The Abortion Debate Isn't About Babies

All human rights are self-evident.   by Michael Corthell The abortion debate isn't about newborns or babies or saving lives.  If it were we'd have universal, free prenatal care. We'd have free universal parental leave for both moms and dads.  If it was really about the welfare of babies, we'd have free diapers and baby formula.  Yes, if the abortion debate was really about the life of the baby it would include the quality of life of the developing child with free childcare, pre-school, and kindergarten.  Rather, what it’s really about is control -- controlling women individually and collectively. It is about taking power away and keeping power for a few. 'Life' is not what actually lies at the root of the abortion debate. It’s about restricting, controlling, and policing women’s bodies. It is about emotional enslavement, and it is abusive.  It is about inequality.  It is about the subjugation of a class of human beings and it has the stench of religious

Propaganda: The Tactic of 'Name-Calling'

Name-calling: abusive language or insults by Michael Corthell Name-Calling is a childish propaganda device that works to make us form a judgment without examining the evidence on which it should be based. Using this tactic the propagandist appeals to our hate and fear.  He does this by giving negative names and labels to those individuals, groups, nations, races, policies, practices, beliefs, and ideals which he would have us condemn and reject. For example, ''Muslims are bigots and full of hate because they supported Proposition 6'' is an attempt at Name-Calling designed to stir up hate and dull reason in individuals who have put little thought into the issue. When you start Name Calling, your argument is lost. The use of Name Calling without presentation of their essential meaning, without all their pertinent implications, comprises is the most common of all propaganda devices. HOW IT WORKS: This propaganda poster, created by the United States in t

Do You Live in a True Democracy?

''In a true democracy, every person can have all they need, all the basics of life plus the highest standard of living possible equal to their peers. If your nation (or global civilization) does not provide for you; the highest-quality universal healthcare, housing, education, transportation, or anything that allows you the opportunity for a safe, happy, and fulfilling life, you are not free and do not live in a true democracy. Why? Because morally and ethically all of the Earth's resources are the common inheritance of all the world's people and should be shared equally for the benefit of all the Earth's inhabitants.'' During wars and even natural disasters, even the most respectable people can be seen fighting over food and resources -- that's because when a person's basic needs are not met, they resort to whatever behavior is necessary to ensure the necessities of life for themselves and their families. By making the necessities of life available

How to Plan Ahead Using Logical Contingency Planning

Contingency planning is like playing chess. by Michael Corthell In business or government  or even in your personal life , it is never wise to put all of one's 'eggs in one basket'. It is therefore a good idea to develop a contingency plan.  ''Expect the unexpected'' is a wise dictate and it is the basis of smart living.  A contingency plan is often referred to as a 'Plan B'.  A ''Plan B'' is simply an alternative plan of action if what was expected to happen in 'Plan A' doesn't work out. Contingency planning is also one facet of business continuity, disaster recovery and risk management. It is part of plain old smart planning and common sense. ''An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.'' ― Benjamin Franklin Without a contingency plan, you could end up in a very depressing and negative situation, you might even be wallowing in your own despair if things don’t work out as y

How to Build Good Habits and Break Bad Ones

by Michael Corthell In every new day there lies a choice. A choice to change your life in a positive way by turning from negative thoughts and embracing positive ones. One of the things standing between us and the life we want is the good healthy habits we want but don't have, and the bad unhealthy habits we have but don't want. The best way to develop good habits is FIRST getting positive about life.  All good things flow from positivity. Then we start by identifying the bad habits (sometimes they're hidden). Then overwhelm the bad ones with good ones! ''It is easier to prevent bad habits than to break them.'' —Benjamin Franklin The following menu list is categorized to make it simple to read and easy to use. It is a MENU for you to pick and choose from. Just scan this list of good daily habits to find the routines that fit your life! Remember that the hardest part of change is the decision to change. Please note that we are not all th

Sullivan Falls Harbor | Sullivan Falls, Maine

Sullivan Falls Harbor Sullivan Falls Harbor lies between Sullivan and Hancock and is situated on the Sullivan River at the northern end of Sullivan Harbor, which is the middle of three inlets at the head of Frenchman Bay. Sullivan Falls Harbor is about nine miles north of Bar Harbor. The falls are formed by tidal currents passing over obstructing ledges at the head of Frenchman Bay. At the turn of the century, the Sullivan River was used principally for the shipment of quarry stone from West Sullivan, about one mile upstream of the falls. Today it is used on a limited basis by lobstering and recreational boats. Original work in the harbor, completed in 1875, consisted of removing three abandoned piers at West Sullivan (about 0.5 miles above the falls), excavating obstructing ledges at the falls to a depth of seven feet, and replacing spindles on rocks at the mouth of the Sullivan River. Additional work in the harbor was completed in 1914. This included removing Hatchers Rock and two le
