Wallowing in Worry? Take Action Because Action Changes Things

Inaction prolongs the distress of worry.  by Michael Corthell Have you woken up in the middle of the night worrying about a difficult situation? I think we all have. Many will pray, "God, please help me do something about this," but you can't sleep, the worry is overwhelming. You toss and turn, saying, "What should I do, what can I do?" But at the same time you know that worrying doesn't change the situation one bit and that you shouldn't worry. You may even remember a Bible verse or several of them. But still, the unsettled feelings continue to haunt you. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." — Philippians 4:6 For all of us, at some point in our lives, there were situations that were so overwhelming, so challenging, so distressing that we just couldn't help worrying about them. When we look back at the resolution of the problem

Change: Adaptation is a Necessary Skill

by Michael Corthell If someone says to you, ''Tell me what to do!''  What is the best answer? There are millions of answers, and it is okay to honor their request, especially to help them out of a 'spot', but a better request for them to make is this, ''Please help me train my mind to adapt to any circumstance.'' This is very much like teaching someone to fish, rather than just giving them a fish.  Helping other people to find within themselves the tools not only for survival but to also grow and THRIVE is good. ''Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change.'' —Stephen Hawking While answered questions and planning are necessary, people who accept life on life's terms, the stoics, don't need an answer for every question or a plan for every single contingency. They simply do not worry. Why is that? Because they have confidence in themselves. They believe that they'll be able to adapt to any situation an

[Change] transmute, transform, vary, mutate, amend, modify replace, or swap.

“Nothing is so painful to the human mind as a great and sudden change.” ― Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, Frankenstein The world today was created by thought and can't be changed for the better without changing our thinking.

[Routine] can keep you safe, but...

“A man who can't bear to share his habits is a man who needs to quit them.” ― Stephen King, The Dark Tower No one is more miserable than the person who makes a habit of being indecisive.

[Boredom] Creates action...

“I abhor the idea of a perfect world. It would bore me to tears.” ― Shelby Foote Boredom is the beginning of creative action. The state of being bored opens up room for new activities. Without boredom, no creativity. (See: #PositiveMindset)

Finding Inspiration in Boredom

by Michael Corthell We have all been bored and some of us are really boring. Boredom is being stuck between wanting to do something and not being able to. It's not that you don't want to do anything. It's just that every thing to do has no appeal—everything seems dull and boring. We are going to change that right now. ''Since boredom advances and boredom is the root of all evil, no wonder, then, that the world goes backwards, that evil spreads. This can be traced back to the very beginning of the world. The gods were bored; therefore they created human beings.'' —Soren Kierkegaard There is really no need to feel disturbed by a little boredom. There's a big world not only out there, and a really big one in here (author points to his head), just waiting to be explored. Here's how to  vanquish boredom . Boredom can be fought four ways:  1. By understanding what boredom is and what it causes. 2. By having some ex

“People pay for what they do, and still more for what they have allowed themselves to become. And they pay for it very simply; by the lives they lead.” ― James Baldwin Act as if what you do makes a difference(both positive and negative) in this world. Because it DOES. “We know only too well that what we are doing is nothing more than a drop in the ocean. But if the drop were not there, the ocean would be missing something.” ― Mother Teresa

ACT: Overcoming the Fear of Success

by Michael Corthell Researchers have tested the theory that some people who have a strong desire for success may actually be suffering from the fear of failure. The results have been mixed, even though achieving success is, by definition, the opposite of failure. It may be that those who fear failure do not necessarily hope for success. ''Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.''      ― Winston Churchill Many people are so afraid of failing at something that they decide not to even try at all. And sometimes this fear is so overwhelming that they will undermine their own efforts to avoid even the possibility of failure. The fear of failure can be immobilizing, but as we know, the antidote to the fear of anything is  ACTION. There are many causes for the fear of failure and/or success. The number one cause seems to be having critical or unsupportive parents who routinely undermined or humiliated the perso

“More smiling, less worrying. More compassion, less judgment.  More blessed, less stressed. More love, less hate.” ― Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart Circumstances change when we change...think positive and the changes are likely to be good changes. “If a problem is fixable, if a situation is such that you can do something about it, then there is no need to worry. If it's not fixable, then there is no help in worrying. There is no benefit in worrying whatsoever.” ― The Dalai Lama

Yes, you...

“I don't know what good it is to know so much  and be smart as whips and all if it doesn't make you happy.” ― J.D. Salinger Everyone seeks happiness in the world and there is ONE best way to find it ― by controlling your mind. Happiness doesn't depend on what's happening 'out there'. It depends on what's rattling around inside your head. We are all as happy as we can be if we WANT TO BE.  Be POSITIVE in thought and deed. “Happiness is a perfume you cannot pour on others without getting some on yourself.” ― Ralph Waldo Emerson
