Perceived Differences: The Genesis of Racism

"Our shared humanity surpasses superficial differences. Collective effort and narrative challenge pave the way for an inclusive, equitable future. Embrace our commonality, reject conditioning, and dismantle the genesis of racism." Michael Corthell The innate understanding that we are all fundamentally the same is a concept children grasp effortlessly. Skin color, an obvious and superficial distinction, does not define our shared humanity. However, as children grow and navigate through society, they are often exposed to conditioning that attempts to convince them otherwise. This conditioning forms the basis for the genesis of racism, a deeply ingrained societal ill that persists to this day. Social Conditioning and Perception From an early age, children are exposed to a plethora of influences that shape their perceptions of race and ethnicity. Media, education, and even interpersonal interactions play a crucial role in perpetuating or challenging stereotypes and biases. These

How to Drive Out the Darkness of Hate

We are not here to curse the darkness, but to light the candle, a light that can guide us through this darkness toward a safe and sane future. by Michael Corthell When we are confronted with very real hatred and violence in our world, the talk of peace or love can sound meaningless, ineffective, and sometimes even offensive. Racism and hatred are like powerful viruses that are seemingly impossible to destroy once they take root in a person's soul. Nearly every day we witness this destructive hatred in our world. It comes in many forms of violence against others, with mass murder being the most shocking. Sometimes I think hate, is stronger than love but then I realize that this is only a temporary illusion. Sometimes I get depressed when I see my fellow human beings try to destroy others because of their race, because of their religion, because of their gender, or because of their political views. Most of us are horrified by terrorism -- that people are willing to

How Do We Overcome Hate and Racism?

Not long ago in America by Michael Corthell Prejudice, Hate, and Racism. This evil trinity of human behavior will rise and fall depending on the political climate, economy, and spiritual atmosphere of the times.  Hating another human being for who they are or what was done to them is very grave insubordination. It is slapping God in the face. This evil behavior carries with it severe consequences for individuals, as well as nations and societies. ''Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that...The time is always right to do what is right.'' —Martin Luther King, Jr. Prejudice is caused by negative, hateful thoughts and attitudes. These opinions and feelings toward a person or group are formed without adequate knowledge , thought or reason and are based on stereotypes. Prejudice is the result of prejudgment and leads to the discrimination of and even outright hate for an

Propaganda: The Tactic of 'Name-Calling'

Name-calling: abusive language or insults by Michael Corthell Name-Calling is a childish propaganda device that works to make us form a judgment without examining the evidence on which it should be based. Using this tactic the propagandist appeals to our hate and fear.  He does this by giving negative names and labels to those individuals, groups, nations, races, policies, practices, beliefs, and ideals which he would have us condemn and reject. For example, ''Muslims are bigots and full of hate because they supported Proposition 6'' is an attempt at Name-Calling designed to stir up hate and dull reason in individuals who have put little thought into the issue. When you start Name Calling, your argument is lost. The use of Name Calling without presentation of their essential meaning, without all their pertinent implications, comprises is the most common of all propaganda devices. HOW IT WORKS: This propaganda poster, created by the United States in t

[Woke?]...now's the time(because the alarm is going off...)

woke : [adjective]  alert to injustice in society, especially racism. “Human beings are a part of the animal kingdom, not apart from it. The separation of "us" and "them" creates a false picture and is responsible for much suffering. It is part of the in-group/out-group mentality that leads to human oppression of the weak by the strong as in ethic, religious, political, and social conflicts.” ― Marc Bekoff

[Racism] The Math of Authoritarianism is Division

“In this country American means white. Everybody else has to hyphenate.”  ― Toni Morrison Your happiness cannot be purchased by another race's misery. “Hating people because of their color is wrong. And it doesn't matter which color does the hating. It's just plain wrong.” ― Muhammad Ali
