Resourceism: Health Care is a Basic Human Right

by Michael Corthell Universal healthcare coverage means that all people have access to all the health services they need for a good quality of life without the risk of financial hardship when paying for them. Why should we provide universal healthcare coverage for every person? ''Universal healthcare coverage is an imperative step for the United States to prioritize the well-being of its citizens. By providing healthcare for all, we foster a more equitable society where access to medical services is not determined by financial means. Universal healthcare ensures that every person, regardless of their socioeconomic status, can receive essential medical care, preventive services, and necessary treatments. Healthcare coverage for all would improve overall public health outcomes by enabling early detection and intervention, reducing the burden of chronic conditions, and promoting preventive care. It would alleviate financial burdens on families and individuals, preventing med

[Medicine]...prevention is the cure

The doctor of the future will give no medication but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease.  Thomas A. Edison Practicing preventative medicine currently isn't part of the average physician's everyday routine today, but in the future, it will be.

[Human Health] Here's to yours, mine and ours...

“Disease, sickness, and old age touch every family. Tragedy doesn't ask who you voted for. Health care is a basic human right.” — Senator Elizabeth Warren No mother or father should ever have to make the decision whether or not they can afford to save their child's life.

Your Right to Health (and being at your best)

“Unless we put medical freedom into the Constitution the time will come when medicine will organize itself into an undercover dictatorship. To restrict the art of healing to doctors and deny equal privileges to others will constitute the Bastille of medical science. All such laws are un-American and despotic.” ― Benjamin Rush , a signer of the United States Declaration of Independence and a civic leader in Philadelphia. The American people should be asking why they can't have the same level of healthcare, for the same cost, as other countries that have similar resources. The answer is easy to understand, by the way: it is the absence of the basic public health insurance that citizens of most other countries take for granted.

Out with the Old

Healthcare must shift to a prevention model.  The focus must be on positive diet and lifestyle changes. Healthcare systems must adopt a more preventative health approach based on the developing science behind the health benefits of plant-rich, nutrient-dense diets( 100% whole food plant based diet ) plus other lifestyle changes such as regular exercise and limiting stress.  After the pandemic, consumers will be more aware of the importance of their underlying health, and will increasingly understand that healthier food is needed to help support their natural defenses. With a much deeper understanding of nutrition , the global food industry must change immediately by offering a plant-based range of product options to support optimal human health. The healthcare industry can respond to this by promoting disease prevention. And, by the way, a healthy plant-based diet is good for the planet's health as well.
