How Do We Overcome Hate and Racism?

Not long ago in America by Michael Corthell Prejudice, Hate, and Racism. This evil trinity of human behavior will rise and fall depending on the political climate, economy, and spiritual atmosphere of the times.  Hating another human being for who they are or what was done to them is very grave insubordination. It is slapping God in the face. This evil behavior carries with it severe consequences for individuals, as well as nations and societies. ''Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that...The time is always right to do what is right.'' —Martin Luther King, Jr. Prejudice is caused by negative, hateful thoughts and attitudes. These opinions and feelings toward a person or group are formed without adequate knowledge , thought or reason and are based on stereotypes. Prejudice is the result of prejudgment and leads to the discrimination of and even outrigh...

Do You Live in a True Democracy?

''In a true democracy, every person can have all they need, all the basics of life plus the highest standard of living possible equal to their peers. If your nation (or global civilization) does not provide for you; the highest-quality universal healthcare, housing, education, transportation, or anything that allows you the opportunity for a safe, happy, and fulfilling life, you are not free and do not live in a true democracy. Why? Because morally and ethically all of the Earth's resources are the common inheritance of all the world's people and should be shared equally for the benefit of all the Earth's inhabitants.'' During wars and even natural disasters, even the most respectable people can be seen fighting over food and resources -- that's because when a person's basic needs are not met, they resort to whatever behavior is necessary to ensure the necessities of life for themselves and their families. By making the necessities of life available ...

About Voter Mistakes

There is a real danger in democracy. It is the risk of the electorate being wrong about a candidate, and until now it wasn't an obvious risk (to many that is).  This mindset has been too prevalent in our era, ''My ignorance is just as good as your knowledge,'' and that has to change.

What is Insurrection?

by Michael Corthell First of all what is insurrection against the United States government?  ''Whoever incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, or gives aid or comfort thereto, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.'' 18 U.S. Code § 2383 re: Rebellion or insurrection We have now witnessed the President of the United States, more than 100 Republican members of the House of Representatives, and 14 Republican Senators attempt an unsuccessful coup d’etat against American democracy. The president directly incited the seditious act of insurrection. The 114 members of Congress attempted to overthrow a lawful, secure election trying to disenfranchise millions of Americans. Will anyone be held accountable criminally? They must be, in order to reassure the American people ...

Looking for a “Burning of the Reichstag” Moment

by Michael Corthell “Burning of the Reichstag” refers to a momentous event that serves as a pretext for the declaration of a state of emergency and martial law (the suspension of civil rights) – like the Reichstag incident by Hitler in February 1933. Is this what we should be fearful of today, two weeks before the inauguration of Joe Biden? It's a strong 'maybe' and here is why I say maybe. While vigilance over our democratic values is never misplaced, the difficulty with anticipating the transformation of the Trump presidency into a dictatorship is that we have to disregard the true nature of his administration. Trumpism is not tyranny in disguise, led by a clown, it is clownish narcissism in the guise of a tyrant. Trump had no interest in either taking over the world or in subjugating America’s citizens. He wanted to hold onto power so that he could go on flooding us with his bullshit to further enhance his brand. But, he may now feel that he must stay in power, becaus...

About socialism

Types of socialism include a range of economic and social systems characterized by social ownership and democratic control of the means of production and organizational self-management of enterprises as well as the political theories and movements associated with socialism . Social ownership may refer to forms of public , collective or cooperative ownership, or to citizen ownership of equity in which surplus value goes to the working class and hence society as a whole. There are many varieties of socialism and no single definition encapsulates all of them, but social ownership is the common element shared by its various forms. Socialists disagree about the degree to which social control or regulation of the economy is necessary; how far society should intervene and whether government, particularly existing government, is the correct vehicle for change are issues of disagreement.
