How Can I Face Fear and Anxiety?

Fear and anxiety are the driving emotions behind hate and anger. Fear and anxiety are made worse by impatience, hurry, and ignorance.  by Michael Corthell Hurry Sickness or the Fear of Not Having Enough Time By definition, hurry sickness is “a behavior pattern characterized by continual rushing and anxiousness; an overwhelming and continual sense of urgency.” ''There is always a bit of fear where there is a bit of hurry. When you hurry to the train you are in fear that you may be left, and with that comes fear of other possibilities consequent on your being left. When you hurry to the party, to the meeting of a person by appointment, you are in fear of some ill or damage resulting from not being in time...''  - Prentice Mulford, ''Thoughts are Things'' (1889) As if that isn’t bad enough, it’s also defined as “A malaise in which a person feels chronically short of time, and so tends to perform every task faster and to get flustered when encou

Global Governance and the Fear of the 'Other'

by Michael Corthell [I wrote this as an introduction to my theory about social behavior in the global resource-based economic system.] Fear : (noun) an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain or a threat. (verb) be afraid of (someone or something) as likely to be dangerous, painful, or threatening. "farmers fear that they will lose business" In both humans and in animals, the purpose of fear is to help ensure the survival of the individual. During the process of human and non-human evolution, the ones who feared the proper existential threats survived to pass on their genes. If we had no instinctive fear, we wouldn't have survived. Therefore fear is a good thing unless it is irrational.  Phobias are one type of irrational fear, but there is another that I call 'misplaced fear'. Fear of loss to the other is one that I'd like to highlight because it is the genesis of racism and by extension speciesism

The Fear Factor

[Behavior] Fear: A 'terrorable' waste of brain power...

“Do one thing every day that scares you.” ― Eleanor Roosevelt Fear can be useful you know. It doesn't have to shut you down... it can wake you up too!

The Greater Fear

Mindless fear is greater than mindful fear. “You can't possibly be afraid of death, really, you can only be afraid of life.” ― Carl R. Rogers Looking at graveyards is good. I think about all those lives that are recorded in eternity. It gives me perspective, I think about what's important in life. Thinking about all those lives and eternity is where I get most of my inspiration for wisdom and life. So, it would be wise to remember that everyone dies a day at a time. I think there's some equality in that truth. “Though we are terrorized by death, it's not different from birth, it just happens” ― Bangambiki Habyarimana
