In Heaven: Neither Male, Nor Female

by Michael Corthell

While the gift of sex and procreation is a very important part of this earthly life, many religious teachings including those of Jesus say that neither of these will play a role in the afterlife (or the 'beforelife') because our souls and our spirits, which are the essence of who we really are as created beings have no gender.

Our biological packaging is for procreation and gives most of us either a male or female gender assignment at birth, but it is increasingly recognized in the society today that not all of us fit neatly into gender assigned categories, either physiologically or psychologically.

The truth is, that human beings are a combination of masculine and feminine energies (yin-yang balance). The physiological representatives of these energies is manifested in the hormone testosterone, and estrogen, we all have some of each in inverse proportions(normally). Generally speaking those who are male at birth would have more testosterone than a female, and vice versa. But, as with most things, the continuum is much more diverse and complex.

We are given 'vehicles', material bodies to function in this dimension of the Universe. Human beings are born into this world to both learn of their divine origin and to fulfill a roll in the fabric of humanity.

We human beings, incarnated in the physical human form, sometimes have a difficult time balancing our masculine and feminine energies. The most evolved, enlightened, actualized souls have achieved this balance nearly perfectly.

In our awakening society we are now seeing a greater appreciation of these truths. Both individually, and collectively as a society, we are more readily accepting androgyny in men and in women.
Being genderless souls makes us realize that we are all indeed created equal.

Whomever you are, whatever your gender or your personal beliefs, background or circumstances, if you catch yourself judging someone by the way they look, they way they dress, or behave as the opposite gender, ask yourself one question: Is loving God and loving all He created the most important action you can take today?

Back to our eternal lives. The future joy God has in store for His children is incredibly more magnificent than the temporary pleasure of sexual fulfillment or the role of male/female.

Is Anatomy Destiny?

Alice Dreger works with people at the edge of anatomy, such as conjoined twins and intersexed people. In her observation, it's often a fuzzy line between male and female, among other anatomical distinctions. Which brings up a huge question: Why do we let our anatomy determine our fate?
