Adapting to Change is a Necessary Skill for Health and Success

by Michael Corthell If someone says to you, ''Tell me what to do!''  What is the best answer? There are millions of answers, and it is okay to honor their request, especially to help them out of a 'spot', but a better request for them to make is this, ''Please help me train my mind to adapt to any circumstance.'' This is very much like teaching someone to fish, rather than just giving them a fish. Helping other people to find within themselves the tools not only for survival, but to also grow and THRIVE is good. ''Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change.'' —Stephen Hawking While answered questions and planning are necessary, people who accept life on life's terms, the stoics, don't need an answer for every question or a plan for every single contingency. They simple do not worry. Why is that? Because they have confidence in themselves. They believe that they'll be able to adapt to any situation an

[Good Health] Believe it...

The power that formed the body heals the body. Whether or not you believe in a divine source, there's no denying that something exists in a living thing that doesn't exist in something no longer living. From a dead body to a dead branch on the ground, the life force just isn’t there any longer. That force permeates and connects us all; plant, animal and human. That is equality. Holding onto the past we delay all healing, mental and physical. The sooner we heal the abuse(through forgiveness), the sooner we free ourselves from the people who harmed us. By hating them, we only hold onto the hurt. We cannot heal unless we unchain ourselves from the hate.

Can We Faith Heal Ourselves?

by Michael Corthell This article is about healing, but not in the traditional Western sense. It is not a substitute for licensed medical advice. This article is about having belief and faith—knowing that healing is a partnership between God and the individual. ''Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.'' '' Rise and go; your faith has made you well.'' —Jesus (God incarnate) Jesus also says, 'Your faith has made you well', to the ten lepers and a blind beggar. Other times Jesus links faith and healing without using the exact words, 'Your faith has made you well,'' such as in Matthew 8:13 and 15:28 .   '' Then Jesus said to the centurion, '' Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would.'' And his servant was healed at that moment.'' and, also: Then Jesus said to her, '' Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.'

[Minimalism] Wants vs Needs

Having all that you need, as well as  recognizing that you have all you need, equals happiness. “I've found that the less stuff I own, the less my stuff owns me.” ― Nathan W. Morris

[Transformation] From Hell to Paradise

A Resource-Based Economy is nothing like any other system. They say “It’s a form of communism.” No, it’s not! Communism has warships, airplanes, bombers, poison gas, nerve gas…and all the things we have [today]. It’s nothing like any other ‘…ism’. It’s different than any culture ever tried before.  ― Jacque Fresco , The Venus Project All of us, deep down inside, have a longing to be reconnected with nature. That connection on a cultural, global scale will fuel our collective creative imagination and restore our world. “Our entire system, in an economic sense, is based on restriction. Scarcity and inefficiency are the movers of money; the more there is of any resource the less you can charge for it. The more problems there are, the more opportunities there are to make money. This reality is a social disease, for people can actually gain off the misery of others and the destruction of the environment. Efficiency, abundance and sustainability are enemies of our economic structure, for the

[All is One] Such as it is...

We cannot harm one without harming all. The healthy 'inter-are' with the unhealthy and the wealthy 'inter-are' with the poor. We can't escape that connection.  Most human beings have been taught to believe that they are separate from other human and non-human beings and in fact all life. That is simply false. We are each other. We inter-are. The fact that we ‘inter-are’ is the great awakening we must have in order for the Earth to be saved.

[Family] Home base...

“All parents damage their children. It cannot be helped. Youth, like pristine glass, absorbs the prints of its handlers. Some parents smudge, others crack, a few shatter childhoods completely into jagged little pieces, beyond repair.” ― Mitch Albom, The Five People You Meet in Heaven Home isn't a location, it's where you find light when your world grows dark.

The Message: That intractable, long-term pain[you suffer from] is often caused by the pursuit of temporary pleasure.

“When you are rich, your past disappears. You get everything you want when you want it . . . Everyone wants to know you. Everyone wants to be your friend.” ― Hannah Lillith Assadi, Sonora That intractable, long-term pain is often caused by the pursuit of temporary pleasure.

Instant Gratification Won't Create Lasting Happiness

by Michael Corthell In western societies particularly, there is a major hindrance in acquiring a positive mindset; it is the greed and gluttony of instant gratification. The brain has the ability to change its programming by 'rewiring' itself. This 'rewiring' of course, can be either positive or negative and since the post World War Two 'baby boom' generation we as a global culture have done just that, we have rewired our collective minds to ''want it all and want it right now!'' Many people today grow up without a true sense of how yesterday affects today are unlikely to have a very real sense of how today affects tomorrow. We live in a society that advertises instant everything, giving our brains instant emotional gratification, which works just like the natural feel good chemicals our brain produces. The more immediate gratification we offer our brains, the more we crave it. We have created a consumer addiction, which in turn h

[Owning It] IF I had the courage to see myself as I really am, I would find out what is wrong with me, and change.

“The reason placing blame repeatedly fails to work  is that I repeatedly place it on everyone else instead of where it actually belongs.” ― Craig D. Lounsbrough Excuses are never lost for long(if you're looking for one, you'll always find one!). Plato may have stated it most succinctly when he said, ''The first and best victory is to conquer self; to be conquered by self is, of all things the most shameful and vile.''

[Regret?] Repent...

“Make it a rule of life never to regret and never to look back. Regret is an appalling waste of energy; you can't build on it; it's only good for wallowing in.” ― Katherine Mansfield The future is inevitable, but the past is fixed.

Why Saw Sawdust?

by Michael Corthell Do you worry about past events or things you should have done(or not done)? Is regret a constant companion? This great read by Mr. Carnegie is fully relevant to life today. People had been worrying and regretting well before 1944 and will likely worry a lot in 2021 and beyond. What would you do if I told you to 'go saw sawdust'? You'd probably laugh and then say, ''Well that's pretty damn stupid.'' and say to me, "What sense would that make, its already sawed, done with, finished.'' I would say, ''Exactly!'' and then I might say, ''It's the same thing as crying over spilled milk, isn't it?'' In the above example the only reason I would say such a seemingly ridiculous thing is that the person I said it to was either regretting a past mistakes and some how trying to fix one by dwelling on it or living comfortably in the past, and neglecting his present. [Compensation] Pay day is every day...

“Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's needs, but not every man's greed.” ― Mahatma Gandhi Greed is a little bit more than enough.
